Freak Show

Yes I have 4 children.

Yes, they're all mine from my one and only marriage.

Yes, they're all boys.

No, I'm not "trying" for a girl.

No, none of them are twins, for crying out loud they're all over a year and a half apart.

Now can I please finish my shopping in peace?

Cute. I am one of 11 sibling, all from the same father and mother. No twins. Imagine how many times we had to hear my mother answer those type of questions! Bless you and your four boys. I'm sure grocery shopping is never dull! :-)

lol, that's for sure! WOW, 11! My sister has 10 kids and that is not the norm in our extended families. So when she started having lots of kids everyone thought she was insane. Now I'm beginning to get comments from family members like, "You know, you don't have to be like your sister." and "Are you trying to compete with her?" Nice.

By the way, your wedding picture is beautiful :).

Equally obnoxious is, "Oh, you got your boy. So you're done now?" I'm pretty lonely so I don't mind the conversation-starters, but this one is a debate-starter.

My 4 also look nothing like me and not much like each other. The firstborn is blonde with blue eyes, the second brown/brown, the third blonde/blue, and the fourth brown/brown. While shopping recently with the two babies, someone commented how different they look. I said they had the same daddy and she shot me an incredulous look. niiiice.

Sigh. I know how this feels. When I had my fifth child and had to shop with all the kids in tow, I grew so tired of the same kind of incredulous questions while trying to keep my temper, I purposely sought out a line that had an Amish or Mennonite family in it, because I knew they would not hassle me in any way, shape, or form in this matter -- !!!!

Keep the faith.

lol, well I'm glad to know I'm not alone!

U.S: YES! I get the "oh, so you must keep having kids so you can finally get a girl" thing ALL. THE. TIME. I've now resorted to saying, "Actually, I don't want a girl, much less emotion in a house full of boys!" :p Of course I would love a girl but you should see their faces ;-).

Thanks T. and great idea! :)

I have a toddler and am expecting a new baby in April. I recently had a woman tell me, "Wow. You don't believe in wasting time." I felt like laughing out loud and asking her if she 'believes in wasting time'!

Louise, when my husband and I moved to our first church he was serving, while at his ordination/installation brunch we announced I was expecting our third and one of the members shouted out, "You know, just because we gave you a big parsonage doesn't mean you have to fill it!" :-O sigh, if only we had a book of come backs huh? :D
